Writing
My writing has mainly focused on sports coverage this past year as a writer in Scot Scoop. I also wrote one additional feature story for supplementary coverage.
Scots hunt down Wildcats in volleyball match
This was my first article of the year. The Carlmont girls varsity volleyball team defeated their Woodside opponents in a close, exciting match-up. They were also playing following their head coach stepping down, a development that provided a certain motivation for the team.
Scots sunk by Tigers in overtime thriller
This was my first coverage of water polo. I covered a girl’s varsity water polo game between Carlmont and Notre Dame. It was a very close, exciting match that went into overtime. The Notre Dame tigers ended up defeating the Scots in the final minutes.
Scots triumph over Ravens in rivalry game
This was the most important sports game I covered of the year. After a hard-fought, emotional battle between the rival Carlmont and Sequoia varsity football teams, Carlmont was able to come out on top. With this win, they won back the Terremore Trophy.
Scots tie Knights in season opener
In this match-up between Hillsdale and Carlmont in girls JV soccer, the Scots opened their season with a 0-0 tie. This was encouraging for the Scots considering they were missing many players.
Scots return from COVID-19 pause to dominate the Knights
Following a major lapse in playing as a result of a COVID-19 outbreak among the team, the Carlmont boys varsity basketball teams returned to defeat Woodside. In this exciting, match-up, Carlmont drained numerous three-pointers to secure the win.
Scots crush Colts on senior night
In one of the final games of the season, the Carlmont girls varsity soccer team defeated El Camino. The seniors played their hearts out, as it was their last home game in their time at Carlmont.
Scots beat Panthers in season opener
This game was a tough match-up between Carlmont and Woodside on a rainy day for girls varsity lacrosse. It was a unique sport to cover as no one usually covers lacrosse. This coverage embodies Scot Scoop’s aim at diversity.
W0rking out of necessity
Working with many underprivileged students through my school’s student governments, I saw the importance of highlighting their stories. Therefore, I wrote a feature article surrounding the struggles of balancing their essential work with additional aspects of their otherwise busy lives as high schoolers.
